Kunming Yunnan Ethnic Minorities Park
Yunnan Ethnic Village (sometimes called the Yunnan Nationalities Village) is a remarkable cultural theme-park on the southwestern outskirts of Kunming — nestled beside Dianchi Lake and at the foot of the Western Hills.
It spreads across roughly 84–89 hectares (including about 31 hectares of lakes and waterways), a broad terrain where visitors can wander among replicated villages, each dedicated to one of Yunnan’s many ethnic minorities.
What makes this place interesting — it’s basically a living museum of culture and diversity. Inside you’ll find authentic-style homes built according to traditional architecture, artfully reconstructed for dozens of ethnic groups like the Dai, Bai, Yi, Naxi and many more.
Trekinfini
Walking through the village, you’ll see bamboo stilt houses by water, ornate wooden dwellings, pagodas, totem-poles and even a sundial square — each reflecting the unique heritage, folklore, and worldviews of its people.
Beyond the static exhibits there’s vibrancy — live folk performances, traditional music and dance, festivals (for example the lively water-splashing celebrations of the Dai or the fiery torch rituals of the Yi), ethnic handicrafts and regional food stalls.
On many days the air fills with songs or drums; the costumes, aromas and movement make the traditions feel alive.
