Kuala Lumpur Thean Hou Temple Good Luck Day

On the 15th day of the first lunar month, known as the Lantern Festival (元宵节, Yuánxiāo Jié), Chinese temples are bustling with a unique tradition to ask for good luck in the coming year.

A central custom on this day is "Guāi Xǐqì" (拐喜气), which means "to gather lucky aura." Worshippers visit temples to make offerings and pray for prosperity and health. The most iconic ritual involves gently rubbing the specific statue of the God of Wealth (Caishen, 财神) in the temple. It is believed that by doing so, one can physically "rub" or "steal" a portion of his good fortune, transferring his wealth and prosperity to themselves for the year ahead.

The atmosphere is one of joyful hope and community, marking the final day of the Chinese New Year celebrations with a direct appeal for divine favor and a fortunate start.
