🏯 About the Centipede Temple
The Centipede Temple, officially known as Then Sze Koon Temple, is a Taoist temple perched on top of Wu Gong Hill (Bukit Jung) in Seremban. It is over 140 years old and is a famous tourist attraction known for its beautiful architecture and serene environment.
The Legend: The temple's name comes from a local legend. It is said that a successful young man who failed to show gratitude to his mother was punished by being turned into a "rock ship" on this hill. A centipede, believed to be the reincarnation of his mother, is often seen near the rock. Spotting a centipede here is considered a sign of good luck and prosperity.
Main Attractions: The temple complex features a three-story pagoda, statues of various deities like the Eight Immortals and Guan Yin, a "God of Marriage" statue for couples to make wishes, a koi pond, and a lucky tortoise pool. A large stone centipede marks the spot of the legend.
Visitor Experience: Visitors can climb 176 to 264 steps to reach the temple, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The atmosphere is generally described as calm and peaceful.
